You’ve probably all seen the 30 iPhone apps with sexy interfaces article that has circled the web lately. Yes, there are some awesome apps out there that use good design and are fun to look at while you use them. What i’ve wondered lately is why I haven’t seen a 30 ugliest iPhone apps feature. If you’ve spent any time in the App Store you know how easy this would be to do.
Instead of making a list of the worst looking apps out there, I’ll just give you some advice to help you and your app stay off of that list when it’s made. Are you ready for it? Its pretty deep…Let designers do design.
I think that too many apps are pushed through the idea and development stages without much thought about the user interface and how the app should look. These things are vitally important to the success of your app and shouldn’t be pushed aside. I’ve seen a ton of apps that are functional and useful but still don’t look good. Yes, there are a few worthless apps that are selling just because of their shiny logo and sleek interface. But if you want to take your app to the next level and really have a great product, don’t overlook the design. As we’ve all learned from watching too much HGTV, curb appeal really does matter.
